I very much enjoyed Jeremy Wade's performance at EMPAC on Friday night. I really appreciated the non verbal interaction with the performer and the audience. It was interesting to watch the performance, due to the fact I have never seen that kind of performance art. This performance made me appreciate the underlying ideas of the performance as to oppose to the aesthetically value. It did not seem like Japanese art, because it showed and talked about homosexuality, diversity, religion, politics, sexuality and other aspects of American culture. The lighting, color and stage aspects of the performance seemed to be really thought out too. The colors were more "American", (red, white and blue). The minimal objects on the stage was also an important factor, so the audience could pay more attention to the performer. The performance seemed to be geared very directly towards the audience, especially in the beginning. It was quickly direct, and I enjoyed that. It was sharp and to the point.
The building in itself was also amazing! I enjoyed walking around and exploring the architecture of the place. When first getting there my girlfriend and I watched a movie on the bean bag upstairs and also ate a lot of food that was free to try. It was exciting to get a taste of some Japanese culture before the performance. Overall, I enjoyed the performance, and would love to see more Japanese performance art.
