Brian "Solar B" Chandler has been creating solar carvings in beach towns all over California
since 1998. He has called Santa Barbara his home since 2000. Some call it "solar pyrography" meaning
writing with fire from the sun. He focuses the essence of the sun through handheld magnifying
glasses and burns designs into wood. The designs are burned freehand into various kinds of wood that
he collects from all over the world, including coastal driftwood and other recycled pieces. Brian first
harnessed the power of the sun at a young age when he discovered that he could burn patterns into
leaves with a magnifying glass. He has since made thousands of pieces which have been sold and
gifted to people from all over the world. With a wide knowledge and vision regarding solar carving,
Brian imparts his artistic wisdom and techniques to people of all ages and backgrounds. He enjoys
teaching others how to create their own solar carvings as well as sharing the importance of the sun and
its unlimited energy."
